Fifth Wheel

from Localypse by Saint and Kings

lyrics

Today I am a fifth wheel
in a four-passenger car
traveling who knows where
and who knows how far
Two couples on the road,
they know I wish them well
but I’m still divisible by one
and to be visible is so much fun!

Today I’m a spare tire,
so you can spare me the talk.
Try to tell me something upbeat,
I’d rather just get out and walk.
I’m here in case of a blowout,
a nail or a pothole unexpected.
I don’t know how it feels to go out
always included, never protected.

The pressure remains high inside
to be prepared to perform.
I look all-weather but, hey, whatever;
friction’s the only way I stay warm.
Two couples on the road
headed home, if not headed straight;
a wheel, but not behind the wheel,
still bearing a load and a weight.
